Funding organizations
Through the EEA grants and the Norwegian grants, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway contribute to reducing social and economic inequalities and to consolidating bilateral relationships with European beneficiary countries. The three countries cooperate closely with the EU through the European Economic Area (EEA) Agreement.
EEA grants and Norwegian grants amount to 1.79 billion Euro for 2009 - 2014. Norway contributes with about 97% of the total funding. Subsidies are available for NGOs, research and academic institutions as well as for the public and private sector in the 12 newer EU member States, Greece, Portugal and Spain. An extensive cooperation is developed with entities of the donor states and activities may be undertaken until 2016.
The key areas for support are environmental protection and climate change, research and scholarships, civil society, health and children, gender equality, justice and cultural heritage.
The project "Nature in Schools and Schools in Protected Areas" is funded through the 2009 – 2014 EEA grants within the NGO Fund in Romania, having a total budget of 160,808.71 Euro, of which 144,616.27 Euro is the contribution from the NGO Fund programme in Romania.
Context
The project aim was to contribute with innovative solutions to raising citizens' awareness and information nationwide about environmental issues in general but mainly about the role of protected areas in sustainable development.
